The Complete Tanzania Experience

Kilimanjaro Climb
+ Tanzania Safari

The only company that can take you from summit to safari without changing operators.

You've just climbed the highest mountain in Africa. The Serengeti is 3 hours from Arusha. The wildebeest migration, lion prides, Ngorongoro Crater at dawn — this isn't an add-on. It's the second half of the greatest trip of your life.

Why It Matters

Direct Operator for Both Mountain and Safari

Most companies offering "Kili + Safari" packages are brokers. They outsource the climb to a Kilimanjaro operator and the safari to a separate safari company — and add their margin on top of both.

Mount Kilimanjaro Climb operates both directly. We have been running Kilimanjaro expeditions since 1978 and Tanzania safaris since the same era. One team handles your full trip — from the Moshi trailhead to the Serengeti plains.

No handoffs. No communication gaps between providers. No middleman margin. When your safari guide picks you up in Arusha after your summit, he already knows what you went through on the mountain.

Why Most Kilimanjaro Climbers Add a Safari

Over 70% of our climbers extend their trip with a safari. Here are the reasons they give.

1

You're already here

The flight from Europe or North America to Tanzania is 10–14 hours. If you're making that journey, spending another 3–5 days in one of the world's greatest wildlife destinations is not an indulgence — it's the logical conclusion of the trip.

2

The physical contrast is extraordinary

Seven days at altitude, sleeping on volcanic rock, pushing your body to its limit — then you step into a Land Cruiser and watch elephants cross a golden plain. The contrast between summit exhaustion and safari serenity is something climbers describe as profoundly restorative.

3

Tanzania's parks are unlike anything else

The Serengeti is not a game reserve — it is a continuous ecosystem covering 30,000 sq km. Ngorongoro Crater is a natural amphitheatre containing the highest density of large mammals on Earth. This is not a zoo safari. These are wild animals in vast, unhuman space.

4

The wildebeest migration

If your timing aligns — roughly November–July — you may witness the Great Migration: 1.5 million wildebeest and 250,000 zebra moving across the Serengeti. It is one of the most dramatic wildlife events on the planet. It cannot be artificially timed or repeated.

5

Direct operator pricing

Because Mount Kilimanjaro Climb operates both, the combined package saves $300–$800 per person versus booking mountain and safari separately through different operators. The savings come from eliminated broker margins, not reduced quality.

6

It completes the story

You climbed the mountain that casts its shadow over the Serengeti. You've been part of an ecosystem that has existed for millennia. The safari gives that context a face. Most climbers who add a safari say it made the entire trip make sense.

How the Logistics Work

The combination is straightforward. Here is the typical flow.

Days 1–7 (or 1–9)

Kilimanjaro Climb

Machame, Lemosho, or Northern Circuit. You summit Uhuru Peak, descend to Moshi, transfer to Arusha.

Day 8–9

Recovery Days in Arusha

Hot shower. Real bed. Your first full meal since summit. Sleep. Most climbers sleep 12–14 hours after descent. This is not wasted time — it is essential recovery before safari demands long days in vehicles.

Day 10 onwards

Safari Begins

Our safari guide picks you up from your Arusha hotel. Game drives begin. The same company, a different vehicle, a completely different Tanzania.

Choose Your Kilimanjaro Route

The route you choose determines your climb duration — and therefore total trip length. All routes are compatible with safari add-ons.
