What's Included — and What Is Not

Every operator quotes differently. Some advertise low prices, then add park fees, camping fees, and transfer supplements at the gate. Here is exactly what your Mount Kilimanjaro Climb package includes — no surprises.

Everything Included

No gate-day supplements. No hidden fees. No compulsory extras.

Park Fees & Permits

  • TANAPA park entry fees (all 6 routes)
  • Conservation fees
  • Camping fees (or hut fees on Marangu)
  • Rescue levy (supports Kilimanjaro rescue team)
  • All park camping fees included — no surprise gate supplements

These are government-mandated fees that every operator must pay. We quote them upfront so you are never caught off-guard at the park gate.

Expert Guides

  • Lead guide (minimum WMAI wilderness first responder certified)
  • Assistant guides (ratio: minimum 1 guide per 3 climbers)
  • All guide salaries, equipment, and insurance
  • Guides carry emergency oxygen and pulse oximeters
  • Summit night: additional support guide deployed for safety

Every guide on our team has personally summited Kilimanjaro multiple times. Lead guides have an average of 12 years' experience on the mountain.

Porter Team

  • Porters carry group equipment, food, and your main duffel bag (15kg allowance per person)
  • All porter salaries — we do not use voluntary tipping schemes to fund porter wages
  • Proper kit bags issued to every porter (no plastic bags)
  • All porters screened and registered with Kilimanjaro National Park

We follow Kilimanjaro Porters Assistance Project (KPAP) standards. Every climber's personal gear is carried separately from group gear — porters are never overloaded.

Meals on the Mountain

  • Three meals per day: breakfast, lunch, and dinner
  • Fresh vegetables, proteins, and carbohydrates — not just freeze-dried packets
  • Hot meals at every camp: rice, pasta, potatoes, vegetables, soup, bread
  • Hot breakfast daily: eggs, toast, oatmeal, fruit, tea/coffee/hot chocolate
  • Energy snacks provided: nuts, chocolate, dried fruit, biscuits between meals
  • Clean drinking water treated and supplied at every camp (no need to buy bottled)

Dietary requirements: we cater for vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, and halal. Tell us at booking — not on the mountain.

Camping Equipment

  • 4-season mountain tent (shared, 2-person tents available at surcharge)
  • Sleeping mat (foam) — we recommend adding your own inflatable sleeping mat for comfort
  • Tables, chairs, and eating utensils at every camp
  • Dining tent on longer routes (Lemosho, Northern Circuit, 8+ day itineraries)
  • Toilet tent with portable camp toilet

Marangu route uses mountain huts — no tent required. All other routes use camping.

Safety Equipment

  • Emergency supplemental oxygen (2.5L per climber on summit push)
  • Pulse oximeters — guides check blood oxygen levels twice daily
  • First aid kit (comprehensive wilderness medical kit)
  • Stretcher and emergency evacuation coordination
  • Summit night: additional safety briefing and equipment check

Every guide is trained in high-altitude illness recognition. We descend climbers immediately if pulse oximeter readings indicate AMS — no arguments, no heroics.

Pre- & Post-Trip Logistics

  • Airport pick-up at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) on arrival day
  • Transfer to your Arusha hotel (or Moshi hotel on Marangu route)
  • All ground transportation during the climb logistics
  • 1 night hotel accommodation in Arusha before the climb (included in standard package)
  • Hotel-to-airport transfer after climb for international departures

If your international flights mean you need an extra night in Arusha before or after the climb, we arrange it at cost price — not at a markup.

Common Questions

Is the park fee really included or will I be charged extra at the gate?

The park fee is fully included in our quoted price. We have paid TANAPA directly. You will not be asked to pay any park fees at the gate. The only thing you might be asked about at the gate is your TIM (Tanzania International Certificate) — we handle the permit application process for you before you arrive, and give you the document to bring.

Do I need to tip the porters and guides separately?

Tipping is separate from the package price and is not included in our quotes. It is paid directly in cash at the camp, distributed by the head guide. We recommend $150–200 per climber for the full crew (guides + porters). Crew tips are not mandatory but are the porters' primary income — they are not paid a living wage by base salary alone. Budget accordingly.

What gear can I rent from you?

We rent: sleeping bags (-10°C rated), trekking poles, down jackets, and daypacks. See our full gear rental list on the gear page. Prices are listed per day. We recommend bringing your own boots if possible — well-fitted, broken-in boots are the one item where rental quality varies.

I have dietary requirements. Can you accommodate them?

Yes. We cater for vegetarian, vegan, halal, gluten-free, and most common allergies. We need to know at the time of booking — not on the morning of departure. Our kitchen team plans meals per group in advance. All ingredients are available in Arusha; we do not improvise on the mountain.
