Rongai Route in November
November is unpredictable — some years fine, some years difficult.
What to Expect in November
The short rains are notoriously variable. Some years they arrive light and brief; others they mirror the long rains of April. There is no reliable way to predict which November will be which. Experienced, well-equipped climbers report perfectly acceptable November climbs. First-time climbers without waterproof gear, or those with once-in-a-lifetime summit expectations, should avoid the uncertainty. Prices are significantly lower in November.
Rongai Route — specific note
The Rongai Route approaches from the north — Tanzania's drier side. It receives significantly less rainfall during the long rains (April–May) than Machame, Lemosho, or Marangu. This makes Rongai the best option if you must climb in a shoulder season.
Our verdict
For experienced climbers only. Significant uncertainty. Very affordable.
Rongai Route
The north-side approach. Drier than other routes. Good for March–May shoulder-season climbing.
