What to Expect in January
The post-Christmas rush has cleared, yet the dry season conditions remain. January brings crisp air, exceptional visibility, and significantly fewer climbers than July or August. Summit views can be extraordinary. Temperatures are cold — expect -10 to -15°C on summit night — but with proper gear this is a non-issue. One of our favourite months to guide.
Our verdict
Excellent choice. Dry conditions, low crowds, outstanding value.
Marangu Route
The classic hut route. Fastest, cheapest — but significantly lower success rate. For budget climbers on tight timelines.
