What to Expect in February

Clear skies, the lowest crowd levels of the dry season, and near-perfect summit conditions. The dry spell has been building since December, which means trails are firm and well-maintained. Visibility from Uhuru Peak on a clear February morning is unmatched. Glacier views are at their most defined. Prices are often 10–15% below peak season rates.

Marangu Route — specific note

Note: Even in peak season, Marangu's 5-day schedule leaves limited time for acclimatization. We recommend the 6-day option in all seasons. Consider upgrading to Machame for a significantly higher summit success rate.

Our verdict

Our top recommendation. Best conditions + lowest crowds of the year.

Prime season — February departures limited. Book early.

Marangu Route

The classic hut route. Fastest, cheapest — but significantly lower success rate. For budget climbers on tight timelines.
