Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best route for my first Kilimanjaro climb?
Lemosho (8 days) or Machame (7 days) are the best first-timer choices. Both offer excellent acclimatisation profiles and consistently high summit success rates (95%+). The Northern Circuit (9 days) has the highest success rate at 98% but is longer and more expensive.
Should I book a group or private climb?
Group climbs are 30–50% cheaper per person ($1,980 vs $2,980+) because guide and porter costs are split across 6–15 climbers. Private climbs offer dedicated attention, flexible pacing, and a slightly higher summit rate. See our full comparison above.
How far in advance should I book?
For peak season (January–February and June–October), book 3–6 months in advance to secure your preferred date and route. For shoulder seasons, 4–8 weeks is usually sufficient. Permits can sell out on popular routes.
What is included in the park fees?
TANAPA park fees cover camping/hut accommodation, rescue services, and trail maintenance. Our packages include all park fees directly — we issue the permit under our licensed operator name, not a broker's. You will receive your permit confirmation with your full name before departure.
Is it safe to climb Kilimanjaro?
Climbing Kilimanjaro is safe with a licensed operator, proper acclimatisation, and experienced guides. Our summit success rate is 95% and our guides carry pulse oximeters and emergency oxygen. The main risk is altitude sickness — our itineraries are designed to minimise this through gradual ascent.
Can I combine a Kilimanjaro climb with a safari?
Yes. Most climbers add a 3–5 day Tanzania safari (Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater, Tarangire) after their climb. We offer dedicated climb-and-safari combo packages, or our sister brand Magical Tanzania can design a private post-summit safari.
Can I join a group climb as a solo traveller?
Yes — and most solo travellers do. You book as an individual and join a scheduled group departure with other climbers. Groups run 4–10 people, keeping costs lower ($1,980–$2,280) and adding a social dimension to the week. See our dedicated
page for full details.
What do I need to know before booking a Kilimanjaro climb?
Three things most first-time climbers ask about: (1) Park permits and fees — all included in your quote, issued under our licensed operator name. (2) How to choose a reputable operator — what questions to ask and red flags to watch for. (3) How to prepare — training, gear, and timeline. Read all three before you sign up with anyone.
What is the best gift for someone who wants to climb Kilimanjaro?
A Kilimanjaro climb is one of the most meaningful gifts you can give — a once-in-a-lifetime physical challenge that produces genuine transformation. Our gift Kilimanjaro certificates are available in any amount and valid for 12 months. The recipient books their own date once they're ready.
