September Climbing Checklist
Book 2–3 Months Ahead
September is growing in popularity as more climbers discover its advantages over August. While availability is better than August, popular routes and early September departure dates still fill 2–3 months in advance.
Full Cold Weather Gear
Summit night in September is -18°C to -22°C at sunrise. Full down jacket rated -20°C, three glove layers, balaclava, and thermal base layers are essential. Less windy than August, but still seriously cold.
Sun Protection Still Critical
September's UV at altitude remains intense. SPF 50+ reapplied every 2 hours. The dry air makes it easy to miss early sunburn. Apply to ears and the back of your neck as well as your face.
Combine with Safari
