Mt. Meru is more accessible mountain to climb than Kilimanjaro and is the second highest mountain in Tanzania. with a lot of wildlife which ramble on it’s hills.
Mount Meru is one of Tanzania’s most beautiful volcanoes, in Tanzania at 4,5685m. The mountain is located within Arusha National Park, Tanzania’s gem. There are two huts available to climbers on the mountain and firewood is supplied. The best time to climb Meru is between October and February. But also June to September, while it is colder then.
Mount Meru is a massive volcano reaching 14,980 feet (4,565 meters). This trek serves as an ideal warm up for Mt. Kilimanjaro due to its altitude acclimatization and hiking distances.
ARUSHA TO MOMELLA GATE – MARIAKAMBA HUT
Mount Meru Park Gate – Mariakamba: 4-5 hours
Drive from Arusha to Mount Meru park gate where you will be met by our game ranger and porters. Hike for a few hours to Mariakamba Hut at 8,500 ft. From here you may wish to take an evening walk on the slopes to view wildlife at one of the watering holes in the crater. Dinner and overnight rest at Mariakamba Hut, L, D.
MARIAKAMBA HUT – SADDLE HUT
Hike Distance 4km, 2 – 3 hrs, 1050m ascent, Alt: 3566
Dinner and overnight Saddle Hut.
SUMMIT – MOMELLA GATE TO ARUSHA
From Meru Summit to Saddle Hut to Momella Gate and back to Arusha
Hike Distance 14km, 6 to 8hrs, 3050m descent, Alt: 1516
Drive 1 hr back to Arusha
